Civil Estimating Formulas and Shortcuts

Quick take-off math for concrete, cement bags, sand, bricks, mortar, plaster, steel and formwork, plus the basic stress-and-strain formulas.

Status

Merged from two pins (20 estimation tricks and top-20 civil formulas). The core formulas check out. One error on the source pin is corrected here: it labels the brick count 'per m2' and the figure of about 500 is per cubic metre of brickwork (standard Indian bricks). Units are metric and the 50 kg bag is the Indian convention; a US bag of Portland cement is 94 lb (about 42.6 kg), so divide kilograms by 42.6 to get US bags (added). These are preliminary estimates only; final quantities come from drawings and the building code, per the pin.
