Defend the Edge, Not the Whole Yard

Ticks don't live in the open lawn — they wait right at the edge, where the yard meets the woods.

Vauban's second rule, same as his first: know exactly where the real threat actually is, and put your effort there instead of everywhere. Treating a whole yard against ticks wastes most of the work — they wait in leaf litter and brush at the transition zone, so that's the only perimeter that actually matters.

About Hal Vauban

HAM radio licensed, methodically prepared, and never once dramatic about any of it — everything he says sounds a little alarming and turns out to be completely grounded. Keeps a notebook that records everything, because the best security, in his own words, is the kind you never actually have to use.
