Good Bones
One chair's beat up but built right. The other one just looks new. She only cares about the one.
Veblen's own line: everything has good bones, or it doesn't — learn to see them. The paint isn't the bones. Don't judge something by how shiny or new it looks; look at how it's actually made underneath.
About Vivid Veblen
Furnished an entire first home from thrift stores and estate sales over a full year, for less than the cost of one piece of new furniture from a mid-range retailer. People who see the finished room assume real money went into it. It was never money — it was patience, a full year of looking, and a trained eye for good bones under bad paint.
