The Reluctant Hero
Moana, Moses, and Jonah all tried to say no. “Same Song, Different Accent,” episode 1.

Moana didn't want to go. Moses told the burning bush to send somebody else. Jonah got on a boat headed the exact wrong way. Three different stories, three different times and places — but underneath, it's the same song. Can you guess what it is?
Moses
The call came at a burning bush in the middle of nowhere, and Moses's first move was to argue his way out of it — he wasn't a good speaker, nobody would believe him, why not send somebody else? Nobody sent somebody else. He went anyway, excuses and all.
Jonah
Jonah didn't argue — he just left. Told exactly where to go, he bought passage on a boat headed the opposite direction instead. It took getting swallowed by a fish and three days inside it before he finally turned around and did what he'd been asked.
Moana
Nobody asked Moana if she wanted the job. Her first real attempt at sailing out to fix things wrecks her boat before she's even past the reef — and the ocean just redirects her instead of giving up on her. She can't sail yet. She's not a trained wayfinder. She's the chief's daughter, not the obvious pick by anybody's measure. It picks her anyway and doesn't let go until she finishes.
Same song, different accent
Three different stories, three different times and places, and all three start the exact same way: somebody who didn't want the job, wasn't ready for it, and tried to get out of it — arguing, running, or just being unqualified on paper. In every version, that's not what disqualifies them. It's usually just where the story actually starts.
Color in Wandering Watts and his log, then color the three little scenes he's listening to. Same song, different accent — see if you can spot what all three heroes have in common before you turn the page over.
About Wandering Watts
Quietly studied Zen for years before anyone outside a small circle had heard of him, and walked away from a path toward the priesthood once it stopped squaring with what he actually believed. Dresses in conversation with whatever he's currently thinking about, hums without noticing, and things have a way of humming back. He didn't go looking for one true tradition — he kept finding the same truth wearing different clothes, and eventually stopped being surprised by it.
