Terrace steps — small gabion modules
Three flights of steps matching the gabion terrace walls — a short entry, since without lateral earth pressure the only real load is foot traffic.
The build: 3 flights of steps (one per terrace, 3 ft rise each) from street to porch, matching the gabion terrace walls. Simplified from the original plan — smaller custom gabion modules, gravel fill, paver tread on top. No soil pressure behind them (not cut into a hillside, just holding gravel infill), so this isn't a retaining-wall problem.
Why no full worked chapter: without lateral earth pressure, the only load is foot traffic — a point load on the order of 300 lb. A modest step module (~12" deep × 6" tall, stone-filled) weighs roughly 40–60 lb per linear foot; the tipping moment from a footstep is negligible against that. Not a real failure mode at this scale — build to comfortable tread/riser proportions rather than a strength constraint.
