3D Print File Licensing — What Actually Blocks Selling a Printed Part

Governed by the individual file's Creative Commons license tag, not a platform-wide rule. Sellable: CC0/Public Domain, CC-BY (credit), CC-BY-SA (credit, derivatives inherit), CC-BY-ND (unmodified prints only). Blocked: anything with "NC" (NonCommercial) in the name — no small-quantity exception.

Directly relevant to MM's own product plans if any 3D-printed part or kit component (Mini Monticello, PAL builds) ever ships as part of something sold — check the specific license tag on the specific file before using it, don't rely on a blanket "the platform is fine" assumption. MakerWorld's Commercial License Membership can grant rights separate from the base file license; Printables has the highest density of clearly-tagged CC-BY/CC0 files if filtering for commercial-safe designs from the start.

If a printed part becomes a component in a sold product, the file's license still applies to that component — CC-BY-NC blocks it entirely, even as a minor part.
