Harbor Freight Chicago Electric Standard Auto-Darkening Welding Helmet (Item 46092)

Solar-powered auto-darkening helmet, 1/20,000-second switching speed, 6.78 sq. in. viewing area, variable shade #9–13 with resting shade #4, adjustable ratcheting headband, 1.30 lb.

Independent welding-community discussion (Weld Talk forums) consistently calls these genuinely usable for hobby welding — the main real limitation is viewing-angle sensitivity, not a safety gap. UV/IR protection is present even in the clear state on every auto-darkening helmet, budget or premium — the price difference is about features and viewing comfort, not baseline eye safety.
