Socket Adapters — Never With High-Torque Impact Wrenches
Chrome-vanadium (standard hand-tool) sockets and adapters can shatter under impact-wrench torque — a well-documented failure mode, not a rare edge case.
One firsthand account describes a socket breaking during impact-wrench use and striking the user in the face. Only impact-rated (chrome-molybdenum) adapters and sockets are safe for power/impact tools — chrome adapters are explicitly rated for hand tools only. Fine for hand-tool/light-duty use in tight spaces; keep well away from a high-torque impact wrench (like the Earthquake air impact wrenches elsewhere in this guide) unless specifically sold as impact-rated.
A shattered standard-chrome socket under impact-wrench torque is a real, documented injury risk — check for "impact-rated"/chrome-molybdenum before using any adapter with a power tool.
