TIG Welding Shop Setup Checklist
TIG Shop Setup Checklist
Category checklist, not individually product-verified: metal-top welding table with locking casters; AC/DC-capable machine (required for aluminum TIG — DC-only is fine for steel/stainless) with torch and foot pedal; auto-darkening helmet; thinner TIG-specific gloves; clear eye protection for grinding/prep; foam earplugs and a respirator; angle grinder for tungsten prep; welding pliers with chain; practice metal coupon kits; acetone in a metal jug for pre-weld cleaning; shop fan for ventilation; Class ABC+ fire extinguisher; height-adjustable mechanics stool.
Galvanized/coated metal welding produces zinc fumes causing metal fume fever — ventilation and a respirator aren't optional. Acetone must be kept in a metal jug, not plastic — real fire-safety consideration.
